Renuvion in Seoul, Korea
Where can I get Renuvion in Apgujeong, Seoul?
Tanggle Plastic Surgery performs Renuvion in Apgujeong, Gangnam, Seoul. The surgical plan and scope are determined at an in-person consultation.
What is the recovery time for Renuvion?
Recovery after Renuvion varies with the extent of the procedure and the patient's condition; the clinic provides an individual schedule at consultation.
How does Renuvion differ from other options?
Renuvion differs from other options in approach and recovery, so the choice is made at consultation based on skin and tissue condition.
What is Renuvion?
Renuvion is the trade name of a device that delivers helium plasma together with radiofrequency (RF) energy. It is the name of equipment, not of a single procedure — so the area treated and the purpose can differ from clinic to clinic even under the same name.
The manufacturer is Apyx Medical. The US FDA has cleared it separately for different handpieces and different intended uses, which means the phrase "having Renuvion" does not by itself identify the treatment. Confirm the area and any accompanying procedure at consultation.
What is Renuvion cleared for?
The US FDA has issued separate clearances by handpiece and by intended use. Below are the clearance numbers and decision dates as recorded in the FDA 510(k) database.
- Moderate to severe wrinkles and rhytides — a surface indication. Note that it is limited to Fitzpatrick skin types I, II and III. Dermal Handpiece · K211652 · 25 May 2022
- Lax (loose) skin in the neck and submental region — improving the appearance of loose skin beneath the surface. APR Handpiece · K220970 · 15 July 2022
- Coagulation of subcutaneous soft tissue following liposuction — a step that follows liposuction in cosmetic body contouring. APR Handpiece · K230272 · 27 April 2023
These are three distinct clearances with different handpieces and different purposes. Saying only that "Renuvion is FDA cleared" therefore does not tell you which of the three your own treatment falls under. Ask which area and which purpose, then match it against the list above.
The wrinkle indication carries a skin-type limit. It covers Fitzpatrick types I, II and III. Patients of East Asian background are commonly type III or IV, so that indication may fall outside the cleared range depending on your type. If you are considering it for wrinkles, confirm your own Fitzpatrick type at consultation.
What safety information has the FDA issued about Renuvion?
In March 2022 the US FDA warned about using this device for skin resurfacing or skin contraction. The reports at that time described second- and third-degree burns that required extensive treatment and left permanent scarring.
The FDA subsequently issued three clearances specifying particular areas and purposes (May 2022, July 2022 and April 2023). In other words, whether the use falls within a cleared indication is the safety question — the warning remains in force for uses outside those indications.
The FDA updated this as a safety communication dated 10 May 2023 and advises clinicians to be familiar with the current indications and instructions for use.
At consultation, confirm which area, for what purpose, and whether that falls within a cleared indication.
How do you prepare for Renuvion?
Energy-device treatments are prepared very differently depending on whether they are performed alone or together with surgery. Establishing which of the two applies is the first step.
- Accompanying surgery — if performed with liposuction, you must receive that operation's preparation and anaesthesia guidance separately.
- Area and purpose — devices are cleared for specific areas and indications; confirm your purpose falls within them.
- Medical history and medication.
- Scheduling — based on the recovery of the accompanying operation.
Confirm what the quoted price covers — whether the device fee is included in the surgical fee or billed separately.
What are the risks of Renuvion?
The risks fall into two parts: those known for the device itself, and the risks of the operation performed alongside it. If it accompanies liposuction, that is surgery under anaesthesia — you must receive that operation's risk disclosure separately.
- Thermal or energy-related injury — energy is applied beneath the skin, so burns and tissue injury are known risks. The US FDA has issued safety information on this.
- Use outside the cleared indication — confirm whether the intended use falls within what the device is cleared for.
- Swelling, bruising and altered sensation in the treated area.
- Asymmetry or an unsatisfactory result — correction may be needed.
- Risks of the accompanying operation — anaesthesia, bleeding and infection apply in full.
Ask three things specifically: which device, on which area, and alongside what. A device name alone does not define the treatment you will receive.
Contact the treating clinic immediately if you notice skin changes suggesting a burn, worsening pain, or fever.
What determines the cost of Renuvion in Seoul?
The cost structure changes completely depending on whether the device is used alone or together with an operation. Establish what the quoted figure covers before comparing.
- Device fee — included in the surgical fee or billed separately.
- Accompanying surgical fee — charged separately when performed with liposuction or similar.
- Anaesthesia — depends on the accompanying operation and is often a separate line.
- Number of areas treated.
- Tests and aftercare — assessed against the accompanying operation.
- Correction policy — conditions and cost, confirmed in writing.
Cosmetic treatments are not covered by Korean national health insurance. Clinics set their own prices for non-covered items and are required to publish them.
Who performs Renuvion, and how do you verify them?
In Korea, 'board-certified plastic surgeon' and 'doctor practising plastic surgery' are not the same thing. Certification follows a defined training programme; a clinic's listed specialty alone does not tell you whether the operating doctor holds it.
- Board certification — verifiable through the Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons
- Clinic registration — licensing and registered specialties can be checked through HIRA
- Who operates — whether the doctor who consults is the one who operates on the day
- Facility and staffing — whether anesthesia staff are present and what emergency arrangements exist
- Experience with the specific procedure
Checking both sources together shows whether advertising matches the registered record. Review scores alone are a weak basis, because a rating does not measure surgical safety.
Situations that push you to decide quickly are themselves worth pausing over — discounts valid only if you sign the same day, a consulting doctor who differs from the operating surgeon without explanation, or refusal to issue a written quotation. Surgery is difficult to reverse; taking more than a day to decide is the safer course. If you are travelling for surgery, also confirm how complications would be managed after you return home.
